About My Personal Web

halfsun

This web is the personal home page of online industry pioneer, Barb Tomlin. Barb literally lives online. It is not just where she works, but where she plays and plans to retire -- soon!

Welcome to my domain in the virtual world! This is a constant work in process. Its publication began simply as a reference tool to assist me whenever I am away from my office at home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Like most early personal web publications, it started out as a page under another publisher's domain. Just for fun, early in the spring of 1997 I decided to expand it into a full blown personal web site, a place where folks I've met online can get to know more about me without feeling like intruders.

I've been living online full-time since 1991. In the course of posting thousands of notes in the message centers of public and proprietary services I have managed to make memorable acquaintances numbering in the thousands. Many of those connections have resulted in priceless friendships I intend to keep for a lifetime. Can I find you in my "friendship" database of over 8,000 friends I've managed to make online?

It was in November of 1991 that I started the "Adventures With Barb" message series on the Prodigy® Network. That series led to the development of a private online community of consultants, then to a dedicated area for small business open to the Prodigy public, on to private e-mail discussion groups, and finally to private chat and message forums on the Web. In fact, there's a great possibility that your visit here today is a result of participating in one of my adventures in life as my personal Web is certainly not aggressively advertised.

Oh, about my MIDI jukebox — if you have already discovered it, you may have guessed it is a popular feature on my site. You're right. I hand-picked the tunes from various places on the Net, all claiming it was okay to grab their renditions for personal web sites. All the music is copyrighted and although the MIDI artists did not want to lay claim to their work, I appreciate their efforts and am grateful to be able to share their talent with you here. Let's not forget the original artists in the process, though. Without them, the tunes wouldn't exist at all and perhaps even the course of history would have been changed. They certainly are part of the history of my own life. In most instances I can remember first hand when the original tunes hit the charts, where I was at the time, and what I was doing — sometimes in graphic detail.

I hope you enjoy listening to my MIDI jukebox as much as I do. Of course, if you're not into the concept at all, I've made the bail-out exceptionally easy for you. I am using a terrific script written by The Omega. First off, you probably noticed that you are the one who controls turning the music on and off. This script also creates a new window for the MIDI player so all you have to do is close that window if you don't want to hear the music. For those of you who enjoy surfing by my jukebox tunes, the script provides a lot of options. You can stop the music at any time and pick another selection or you can set it to play continuously, selecting tunes at random. When you leave my site, you can take the jukebox with you by leaving its window open. You can continue to control your musical enjoyment as you surf other webs. Enough already. Keyword here is "Enjoy".

Time to move on.
