My Heritage
I am proud to be a descendant of a long line of entrepreneurs and statesmen, many of whom were prominent farmers and ranchers of their time.

I am the first cousin (five times removed) of Ulysses S. Grant, a farmer and frontiersman who became the 18th president of the United States of America at the young age of 46. I am the granddaughter of one of Colorado's historical characters, Emory Simpson, (Cabin and a Clothesline; A Saga of The North Fork High Country And Its People) and the daughter of miner and rancher, George Simpson. My father's life was taken by cancer at the young age of 42 and my grandfather passed away in 1992.

My mother is a character in her own right. She used to drop in on my colleagues and me back in the early days on the Prodigy Network and since then, a few of those folks have managed to meet her in person. Mom is currently a widow, for the third time around. She says she'll never marry again and while she's not spending any time looking for a partner, she's quite the charmer and the fellas still line up to court her. She's no ordinary woman. Besides playing the stock market like a pro since the 60's, she's run a farm, a ranch, taken hunting and fishing parties on many trips into the wilderness, and worked for several seasons at a fishing cannery in Alaska. A few years back, she retired as a police officer in the community where she's lived most of her adult life. Until last year, she spent a lot of time travelling but when she started losing more of her sight, she has stayed closer to home.

As mother and daughter relationships go, ours was pretty normal. We rarely saw eye-to-eye before I married. It wasn't until I turned 40, though, that I really came to appreciate all the contributions she has made to my life and her unique qualities as an individual. I love my mother and am proud to have her as my best girlfriend today.

And now on to my life story...
