I loved to
sing, though, and took advantage of every opportunity I could get to
perform before I left home for college.
Within months after my father passed
away in 1973, I stopped performing as a singer. It was just too emotionally
difficult to get through a song. While I would sing occasionally in
church or with family during the Christmas seasons, it stopped
there.
Then, in December 2000 I decided to
purchase a karaoke machine in time to use it for the upcoming holiday
celebrations. I had no idea that such a purchase would have a significant
impact on my life! I can't begin to rave enough over all the benefits
my friends, family and I have derived that decision. In May 2001, my
husband Gary and I went to Tennessee for our first recording sessions.
That's right -- each of us recorded our own CD, featuring 10 of our
favorite songs!
Before my
50th birthday in September 2001 we purchased a professional system.
Since then we have grown our CD+G inventory to include over 12,000
songs. Managing our inventory became so complex we ended up computerizing
as much of the process as we could with MTU's software designed for
karaoke hosters. We also decided to form the American
Karaoke Guild so we could stay in touch with all the great people
we met as we traveled across the country visiting karaoke clubs.
I don't plan to stop singing anytime soon! |
