Barb Tomlin's Family Tree

I've always been fascinated by my family's history. I used to spend hours on end listening to my grandfather spin stories of his youth. In 1994 I purchased my first piece of genealogy software, Family Tree Maker, and began to research and document our family tree. I'm still working on the project, primarily because it satisfies my need to solve a good mystery now and then. One of the best online resources to subscribe to for rare genealogy information is genealogylibrary.com.

Before you venture very far into your genealogy research, you should read the IDG Book, Genealogy Online for Dummies®. Included with the book are links to valuable online resources. Unfortunately, links become outdated rather quickly. I try to keep a current version of what started as the links page from the book on my personal site. You're welcome to browse my links but please don't allow the list to be a substitute for getting the book. You will only benefit from all the great tips and tricks you will find inside.

A great way to find out about ancestors online is to subscribe to an e-mail discussion list corresponding to your surname. The surnames of interest to me are:

SIMPSON (my father's surname)

This mailing list also includes discussions of the surname variations for Simpson (e.g., Simson). Send postings to simpson-l@rootsweb.com. To subscribe send the word "subscribe" (without the quotes) as the only text in the body of a message to simpson-l-request@rootsweb.com (mail mode) or
simpson-d-request@rootsweb.com (digest mode).

If you're interested in this type of trivia, you are welcome to explore a few highlights from my personal life.
